What if We all Cared?

Celeste closed the office door firmly behind her and headed surreptitiously back down the tunnel to the door to the river bank. As she stepped out into the fresh night air she had a renewed sense of satisfaction even greater then when she’d helped Arnold. There was nothing wrong with making prisoners work for their upkeep, but local officials pocketing the profits was blatantly wrong! The profits needed to be applied to needed renovations and repairs to the jail system as well as programs to prevent crime. She was certain all the information she’d gathered would provoke huge changes and a media explosion in this county seat.

Celeste was careful to not shut the door behind her and even took a moment to jam the lock so it would need to be replaced in order to lick properly. She walked towards the hanging branch and assessed the possibility of climbing back up. As she reached up for the branch she was startled and almost fell in the creek as the branch slowly lowered itself to reach her!!

It was the contact she’d emailed already there to cover the story!! Wow, that was quick. Celeste smiled at Allen and he climbed down to the little concrete ledge. They chatted a minute on how much they both loved caves and tunnels then Celeste showed him the entrance. She quickly described all she’d seen that night as well as that the janitor would be mopping in a few hours, if he stuck to the schedule. If they were going in they’d have to be quick about it . . .
